NEW TO PORT MACQUARIE
The average age in the Port Macquarie region is 49, a little older than the rest of Australia at 38, but we can expect this average age to come down given the growth in the number of university students, the overall increase in population which provides a critical mass for younger people to stay, and the reported migration of people from major cities to PMQ during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As with the rest of Australia, families are becoming smaller at 1.8 children per family.
Hospitals, social services and aged care make up the biggest industries for employment, followed by supermarkets and grocery stores and secondary schools.
